Davidoff
Year of the Rabbit
It started
first thing in the morning, at Disney, Pan-Pan started pawing to alert them. Bugs
Bunny was the first to react; he left Looney Tunes in a hurry to go to Marvel
Comics to look for Roger (the one who didn't get killed).
Then begins
a dialogue that only the Leporidae can understand; but as I am of the old
generation, I asked Bonhommet to lend me Tilapin as interpreter. So I give you an exclusive copy of this conversation.
Bugs: What's up, Doctor?
Roger: What's
up? But it's been a disaster since this morning! A red and gold deluge is falling on
the snobbish world of our people, so much so that it has spilled over onto
Mother Earth; everyone is affected.
Do you
understand what this means Bugs? It's worse than hunting.
Bugs: What
are we going to do?
Roger: What do you mean what are we going to do?...
They only want the rabbit! You understand, after the tiger it's the year of
the rabbit at Davidoff.
Let's leave
the rabbits to their own devices and talk about this special edition: Davidoff
Year of the Rabbit Limited Edition 2023.
As usual,
Davidoff releases at the end of the calendar year, a special cigar for the Chinese
New Year (22 January 23), presented in a box all in red and gold.
The lid, in
addition to the iconic representation of a leporid, has a succession of arcs that
symbolize the small and regular bounces of a rabbit as it moves, but also mini
waves; because this year, the Chinese will be in the sign of the water rabbit.
The cigars,
which are protected by a wooden panel, are arranged in a very particular way
since the box represents a burrow with its sections linked together.
It's time for me to move on to the tasting.
I have a
cape of a beautiful brown whose head ends in a small rabbit tail; it is really
small, which in body language, means that there is no danger, aggressiveness, and
the age of the tobaccos (4 ½ years old on average) will quickly confirm this to
me during the tasting.
It is
decorated with two rings: a classic Davidoff and a red and gold one with the
name of the range, the icon of the rabbit and a reminder of the little bounces.
The cut
made, the lighter in hand, I launch into the lighting. An
operation sometimes very delicate with a perfecto. Here, I am amazed by the speed of this perfect
lighting.
Quickly a beautiful opaque smoke fills my
space.
The startup launched, I am in a sweetness a
little too moderate for me, but it quickly evolves with a white pepper note.
This one will become permanent but a small leap forward of roasted nuts and
coffee cream will balance this peppery sensation remarkably well.
After a few
moments of tasting, the complexity of the manufacturing process makes me think
again of the terrier and all its galleries. Let me explain my reasoning: I am
barely adapted to this pepper and roasted nuts when the cream arrives; and as
soon as this one is assimilated, a bounce and here I am in freshly tanned leather,
to bounce again towards the espresso.
At about the range ring, the intensity increases
by a small jump but remains in the medium-strong range. My cigar delivers its
final bouquet with notes of cocoa, cedar, cinnamon and herbs.
It's time for me to tell you about what's
around this special edition, while my very small butt dies quietly on Mother
Earth.
First, the
House of Davidoff advises the tasting of the rabbit with a fruity cocktail like
the Cranberry Old Fashioned. I give you the recipe.

Ice.
Who says Chinese New Year, says accessories adapted for this year of the water rabbit: they opted for an ashtray and a cigar cutter (in very limited edition: 450 ashtrays and 370 cigar cutters).
The tasting
was of a Perfecto cigar of 15.1 for a cepo of 54.
Wrapper :
Hybrid 238 (Ecuador)

Vicente seco, Piloto seco (Rep. Dom.)
In conclusion: I leave the last word to
Jeannot: The most famous rabbit in the world, a great lover of Cuban cigars as much
as Davidoff, declared after a Bulls game: Talent wins games, but teamwork and
intelligence win championships. I think that with this year of the rabbit, the
house of Davidoff has already closed its 2022 championship very well.
They
succeeded in putting forward the calm, persuasive, comfortable and zen aspect
of the sign of the rabbit. Like him by his refined side, they preferred subtle
tact to force.
I won't go
into the price of this kind of cigar again, I've done it enough times that you
now know the work and taxes that go into it. I know for my
part that I will certainly smoke it again on a special occasion. So I invite
you to discover one of the 192,000 cigars at your local Davidoff dealer.
Price at the time of writing: 48 euros.
I'll leave you to it, I have my rabbit à la
liégeoise on the stove!
