EIROA
CBT Maduro
Robusto
Christian Luis Eiroa, who was born in Honduras in 1972, is
the 3rd generation Eiroa in the cigar world. He will follow in the footsteps of
his elders in 1995 after his studies. And everything will go very fast for him,
this same year his family buys the Camacho brand from the family of the
deceased Simon Camacho. In 1998, he took over the family business and continued
to work hard on the development of Camacho. In 2000, the brand was launched in
the United States and simultaneously internationally. And despite the
detractors, it was a great success.
8 years later, Christian sells Camacho to Oettinger Davidoff
but stays with the company for 3 more years to ensure the best transition.
In 2011, he takes a year off to spend time with his family,
golfing, fishing...
2012 is the year of his big comeback and he creates CLE Cigar Company.
And this day, I launch into the tasting of his EIROA CBT Maduro.
EIROA: you have just read the explanations
CBT: for Capa, Banda and Tripa that you will translate very easily by Cape, Sub-cape and Tripe
Maduro: These dark capes that usually offer a sweeter taste
are usually produced by leaving the leaves of the plant longer exposed to the
sun and a longer process of maturation and fermentation.
At the time of the evening: The hairy ones which smoke
season 2, one had said to you that Camacho Triple Maduro was a single cigar in
the world, and well it is not any more the case since Christian puts that back
with his new CBT Maduro.
Enough about history and let's discover my vitola and its tasting.
My first thought when I look at my cigar is that Christian
has a weakness for black because as for his Camacho version, my tasting of the
day is covered with it from the foot to the ring.
It is protected by a paper hood (I mean the military coat
with hood) shiny black, this one is covered with several EIROA surrounded by an
old Spanish adage in 3 words: SALUD, AMOR and PESATAS (Love, Health and Money),
all written in silver. This capote is a trademark of the company CLE, it is a
tribute that Christian dedicates to his grandfather, he always kept his cigar
hidden in a box at the foot of his bed.
Then comes a ring with a lot of red, silver and black. In the center of this one we find the same inscriptions as on the capote, with in more and all around: Tradicion, Tabacalera and Calidad Superior (Tradition, Tobacco and Superior Quality).
On its left side: HECHO 2013 in small black font. On the right side of the band, another silver rectangle on the stripes says DESDE 1916.
When I remove the hood, I discover a cape of a dark color that reminds me of an espresso, it is quite smooth and a bit oily.
I begin the meticulous ritual of cutting and lighting. Raw
the draw seems perfect to me, and a strong coffee smell is present.
At the first puffs, the smoke develops in a large stream and
my vitola serves me on a red carpet of strong coffee and white pepper flavors.
They will be joined a little later by earthy and ferns.
These few flavors, a little restricted, make a sweep with
great changes of intensity like the ebb and flow of the ocean. And gives my
tasting, a moment of pleasure and makes this one a pleasant cigar.
I think I detect a hint of red cherry, oak that complete my
palette. But it is the creamy aspect that is predominant in my tasting.
The ash remains quite white, which reinforces my impressions
of great balance in the construction of this puros from Honduras.
If my vitola has a medium strong power, it is full-bodied but with a soft finish even after tasting, we keep for a while this full-bodied creamy mixture.
So I made a tasting of a cigar puros with leaves only maduro. Its creator definitely wanted naturally darker leaves due to the amount of sunlight and nutrients they receive.
This one has a length of 12.7 for a cepo of 50
In conclusion: a well-constructed cigar with medium-strength
and perfect balance. A low complexity but still a quite pleasant cigar.
I think I'll smoke it again very gladly but I'll taste the
natural version first.
Price at the time of writing this article: 9.8 euros.
