Joya de Nicaragua
Número Uno
It was in
2019 that this cigar was released; while it was already produced under the name
#1, it was only used for special events or as a diplomatic gift by ambassadors
& representatives of the Nicaraguan government.
For the packaging, they opted for flash with a light blue box, golden light beams that start from the logo, except for the horizontal which is white (the inner lid is white so the beam is blue).
Its name inevitably reminds me of the famous card game, certainly well known by my friend Alex D'Aprile. Let's hope it makes me want to take two more at the end of the tasting because I wouldn't have cried UNO.
Come on, it's time to start discovering this cigar belonging to the OBRAS MAESTRAS line (cigars that commemorate Joya's trajectory in the premium cigar industry in Nicaragua).
I have a fairly light colored wapper with a pigtail head. It is very soft and not very oiled. It is decorated with a rather imposing ring with blue, off-white, white, and silver colors.
Above and
below, I have two bands with brand logos in watermark; the rest are indications
of its origin, brand and range name. The N of UNO is typed to form the number 1.
After a straight cut and a lighting with matches, the smoke gives me sensations of brioche, leather, saltiness and at times jolts of red pepper. The salt, and a floral and fruity side make me think of a Highland whisky.
After a
very good centimeter, the pepper became white accompanied by hazelnut, toast
and a touch of nutmeg.
I now enter a huge mass of cream, milk caramel and a return of vanilla always accompanied by white pepper and toast. Nuts, apples, raspberries are invited sparingly in my tasting.
The
combustion is good, the draft is perfect and the smoke is more than
interesting.
The intensity
increases very slightly but will remain at the medium-low level.
The end of
my tasting will not really change except for the appearance of a honey cookie
aspect.
I am thinking that this cigar is confusing for
a Joya as well as for a Nicaragua. I've been more used to full-bodied cigars.
On the
other hand at the level of complexity of the tasting I am really well in a
cigar of the brand Joya de Nicaragua.
The tastings were conducted on 5 examples: 3 of Le Premier and 2 of L'Ambassadeur, which were 17.46 cm for a cepo of 48 and 16.82 cm for a cepo of 44.

In
conclusion: those who follow me or know me, know that I am addicted to cigars
of strong intensity; but I must admit that I was conquered by this Número Uno
because it compensates its medium-low to medium intensity by an incredible
complexity. One does not have time to get bored so much one passes from a
flavor to the other without leaving its smoothness.
Price at the time of writing: Le Premier is
14.40€ and L'Ambassadeur is 13.90€.
