Plasencia
Cosecha 149
Azacualapa
Néstor Andrés, Gustavo, and José Luis Plasencia had already
spoiled us with the 146 edition; 3 years later they return with the 149. As its
name indicates, this cigar is made with tobacco from the 149th harvest (Cosecha
149) since the creation of the company in Cuba. For your information this
harvest took place in 2014.
Small novelty anyway, this edition is a Honduran puro: the
wrapper coming from Olancho, San Agustin, the sub-wrapper from the Jamastran
valley and the filler from a mixture of tobaccos from the Jamastran valley,
Olancho and Talanga. This harvest gives a range of 3 cigars (two in Belgium)
that is named after the province of Honduras, tonight I attack the Azacualpa
which is a Toro format.
For the packaging, they focused on a rather luxurious box
with beautiful and imposing hinges, and on the colors black, white and dark
orange.
I have a dark brown cape, it is not very oily and looks like
velvet when I run my fingers over it. It is decorated with 3 rings and I will
only dwell on the inscription of the one at the foot: "Private
Harvest", as on the 146 version. With these few words Néstor wants to
insist on the fact that this tobacco is an exclusivity for cigars bearing his
brand. Don't forget that since 1986, the factory has been producing 1 million
cigars per year for its different clients.
During the raw draw, I am quite surprised by the black
pepper for a Honduran puro.
After a short moment of hesitation, the foot ignites
masterfully and releases a beautiful stream of smoke that brings me flavors of heavy
cream, strong coffee beans, dark chocolate and intense cedar.
The arrival of the earth is a trigger for take-off and I
find myself out of time, I literally float in a modified state of
consciousness.
My tasting offers me a smoothness despite the train pushing
at the back with the fatty earth, coffee and black pepper.
The draw is perfect as well as the combustion even if the
burn line varies a little but it regulates itself. At this stage the taste is
medium and the strength is medium high.
Quietly not quickly, because this cigar must take time to
taste, I arrive in an important turn in the levels of flavors and strength. If
the first one goes up to full, the power climbs a notch to leave the medium and
jump into the strong box (for your understanding I will say medium-strong).
I am literally having a blast with this module: I find an
amazing balance between flavors and strength. At this point, I join my friend
Christof (DekelleCigars) who finds that this cigar surpasses all Plasencia he
has tasted so far.
But even though all good things must come to an end, I still
have time to dive into the tide of dark chocolate, fatty earth, cream, espresso
coffee in a mini volcano of red pepper, roasted nuts, oak and cedar. I emerge
to a large space of Corinthian grapes.
You will have understood that I am subjugated by this
tasting which was carried on two vitolas of format Toro of 15.24 cm for a cepo
of 52.
In conclusion: as we don't do it enough, I would like to
thank the distributor who worked behind the scenes to bring this range to
Belgium, and having spoken with several of them it is not always easy. So thank
you Vinche & Koopmans. At
Plasencia cigars, we have good and luxury like the Alma range and we have
Cosecha 149. I encourage you to run to your favorite dealer to get this little
gem and experience it for yourself.
